GrungeCake: Originally, where are you from?
Nick: Springfield, Massachusetts…Birthplace of Basketball and the home of Dr. Seuss.
Matt: I hail from Springfield MA, it’s a smaller city in western MA about an hour and change west of Boston.
GrungeCake: What is the significance behind the name “Gearbottle”?

Nick: I’ll let Matt explain that one. All I can remember was Guinness, a napkin for potential names, and a Hooters waitress.
Matt: The name Gearbottle actually came from a night of drinking. We really did go out with the goal of thinking of the name for what we were about to do. Neither of us could come up with anything for some time so I drifted off a bit and looked at behind the bar. The bottles immediately caught my attention from how they jazz it up with the lights behind it, and that’s all it took and then the names clicked in my head gear and bottle. (Laughs) We were going to “bottle” up all these shops in one convenient place for people to find.
GrungeCake: Will your app be available for the Blackberry?
Nick: Initially we wanted to go with the Android & IPhone, but releasing the app on all phone operating systems wouldn’t be a bad idea at all…might as well!
Matt: We’re going to have to talk to our developer and get back to you. (Laughs) I think it would be a great look though seeing as how blackberry is coming out with some new phone options.
GrungeCake: If yes, how soon?

Nick: I’m going to say sometime in 2012, but anything is possible, if the demand is high DEF way sooner.

Matt: Stay posted!
GrungeCake: How often do you travel?

Nick: As much as possible, it’s always fun seeing new spots and getting a feel for a new area.
Matt: I have been away almost every weekend this past summer leading up until now. So I’d say almost every weekend. We usually hit Boston or NYC for the most part or someplace out of town. I was recently in Miami for a tradeshow and had a blast. In the future I’m making it a huge point to get more diverse in traveling as it does help Gearbottle get recognition. Definitely need to check out LA and places overseas, Brazil is also a must but that might more of a fun trip.
GrungeCake: Often, do you find yourselves lost?

Nick: The iPhone GPS navigator helps often, and now that Gearbottle is here I can locate the stores I’m looking for wherever we go. (Laughs)

Matt: No, I wouldn’t say lost, I’d say more confused for a period of time then we pull it together. When we hit up NYC, P usually drives and he’s pretty good with directions. Plus we usually have the GPS in case something goes that wrong.
GrungeCake: Who’s the better navigator?

Nick: It all depends. Sometimes I’d have to say myself, other times Matt There was one situation where we got pulled over in New York, we were starving, and the cop gave us directions to a pizza place. I had no idea what the cop told me, but Matt remembered the directions to the pizza shop, therefore in that situation he was better.
Matt: P by far. He used to draw maps when he was a young dude so now he’s pretty good with his skills. I co-pilot to the best of my abilities though.

GrungeCake: Why do default search engines and apps not suffice?

Nick: Gearbottle is a search engine especially designed for streetwear & sneaker boutiques.
Matt: I mean, you have Google, but it is so generalized you will never find a streetwear boutique you’re looking for unless you already know its name and location and pin it down in the search. We understand how the best shops with the dopest brands and gear are mostly owned by one person or an intimate group running the show. We built Gearbottle to cater to these shops and help them get the shine they deserve and steer the street wear enthusiasts in the proper direction.
GrungeCake: Is this a free app or a paid app?

Nick: Paid, 0 .99 cents.
Matt: If you can hustle up 99 cents you got it! The best less than a dollar you can spend.
